Why buy from a breeder?
Breeders are far more familiar with their gerbils and know each one personally. This allows a breeder to choose and recommend gerbils specifically for your desires. The majority of stores that sell gerbils, have their only mission being to keep them alive. Personality, friendliness, and social skills play no part in their life. Most of these gerbils are also kept in solidarity, resulting in a lack of social skills, and the inability to live with other gerbils, affecting their happiness. Many pet store gerbils also develop severe illnesses due to this problem. While gerbils take first, and only president for breeders, allowing time and dedication to breed perfect bloodlines, gerbils take the last president of rodents in a pet store.
Why gerbils make great pets
Low Cost
Gerbils don't demand much of your time or money. The biggest cost foreseeable you'll ever face is the initial buying of supplies and the gerbils themselves. This is perfectly affordable, and from that point out the cost of food, bedding, and water, amounts to less than ten dollars per month.
kid-friendly
Because gerbils are docile, easy to care for, and not a big commitment due to the fact that they live only 2-4 years, they're great for children who don't want the responsibility of a bigger or longer-lived pet. They're also fairly durable for young children. (recommended 7+)
Low Maintanace
Gerbils generally need a 20-gallon tank and monthly cage changing, which can be lots of fun! Beyond that, they don't need much maintenance except handling and love.
Docile and Friendly
Gerbils are friendly and curious animals, and when properly socialized, will come up to you and walk onto your hand when you reach into the cage. They look forward to the visits from their owner, and are easy to handle.
Crepuscular
Gerbils are crepuscular, meaning they sleep during dawn and evening, taking leisure naps the rest of the time. They'll play while you're awake, and won't keep you up all night, unlike the majority of rodents that are nocturnal.
Scent-free
Gerbils are scent-free! They produce very little smell and won't stink up the house, or even the room they're kept in.
You won't be able to tell if their cage is ready to be changed without smelling inside the tank.
